RIS: Compettition in development of new analitic methods in medicine

The RIS competition is organised by the Medical Physics Programme Group of the UL Faculty of Medicine and the Slovenian Association of Mathematicians, Physicists and Astronomers. It is a competition in the development of new analytical methods in medicine, with a focus on machine learning. The competition is open to students, competing in teams. Each team can have a maximum of three people, and all teams compete against each other in the same competition category. The competition is held in two levels, both of which are conducted online. The first level acts as a qualifier for the second level of the competition, where all teams receive a silver ris award and the top three teams also receive a cash prize.
The focus of this year’s competition will be on neurodegenerative diseases – diseases of the brain that cause nerve cells to malfunction and die. These diseases mainly affect the elderly and are becoming a major social and economic problem in an increasingly ageing population. To cope with these diseases, it is important to know the right diagnosis as soon as possible, which will be one of the challenges of this year’s competition.
Entries for this year’s competition will be accepted from 1st to 25th February 2022 on the official competition website (http://tiziano.fmf.uni-lj.si/). The competition will start with an introductory lecture on Monday, 28th February 2022. The introductory lecture is designed to provide background and an introduction to the actual problem that the teams will be solving in the competition. The first level of the competition will run from Monday, 28th February 2022, to Monday, 21st March 2022. The top five teams of the first level will qualify for the second level of the competition, which will run for 48 hours starting on Saturday, 9th April 2022.
Further information about the competition is available on the official competition website: http://tiziano.fmf.uni-lj.si/.
