RIS competition

In March and April 2022, the second national competition for the development of new analytical methods in medicine – called Ris – was organised by the Slovenian Mathematicians, Physicists and Astronomers Association (DMFA) and the Medical Physics Research Group. This year, the competitors faced a challenge on the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease, a major social and economic problem for the ageing population. The contestants had to devise an algorithm that would predict the extent of brain damage as reliably as possible from FDG-PET images of the brain. The competition was held in two rounds. 10 teams qualified for the second round, with Bizgeci, SCRM and Bamboozlers performing best in the second part of the competition. The second Ris National Competition was overall a great success, with excellent participation and interest from the competitors.
